A Look at Empathy

People exceptionally talented in the Empathy theme can sense other people’s feelings by imagining themselves in other’s lives or situations. CliftonStrengths This week our guest blogger is Tricia Dix. Tricia has been a mentor with Millard Public Schools since 2011. In addition to mentoring, last year, Tricia began working for our central office as an Administrative Assistant. Her top five strengths are Harmony, Empathy, Connectedness, Consistency, and Discipline. Here’s what Empathy looks like for Tricia: Growing up I was told that I was “too sensitive”, could easily cry “crocodile tears”, and that I should have been an actress because I could cry on cue!  I always wished that I wasn’t so sensitive.  I viewed it as a weakness.  It wasn’t until the day I took the Gallup Strengths Finder and discovered that my #2 strength is Empathy, that it all made sense.  It was then that I realized being empathetic is not a weakness, but rather one of my strengths....

A Look at Consistency

People exceptionally talented in the Consistency theme are keenly aware of the need to treat people the same. They try to treat everyone with equality by setting up clear rules and adhering to them. CliftonStrengths This week our guest blogger is Cathy Hanna. Cathy is the co-coordinator for the TeamMates program at Chase County Schools in Imperial, Nebraska. Her top five strengths are Responsibility, Deliberative, Consistency, Discipline, and Harmony. Consistency: Equality Matters

People exceptionally talented in the Consistency theme are keenly aware of the need to treat all people the same. They try to treat everyone with equality by setting up clear rules and adhering to them. Clifton StrengthsFinder Those high in the StrengthsFinder theme of Consistency are wired to treat all people equally. Their natural inclination is to create boundaries, structures, and rules in order to generate an environment where all people are measured by the same stick. Equality matters to those with high Consistency, and the best way to achieve equality it to have the same standards for all. Because of this natural talent to create structure and boundaries, Consistency sometimes gets labeled as boring, strict, or uptight. In reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
